Thiel gave him a sympathetic glance, then replaced with an interested one. "What do you mean took different paths?" she asked.
| In the world I see - you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway. |

"Well...she went one way, and...I went the other," he answered cautiously. "We separated company. We never saw eachother, and I rarely heard of her, until a few...years back..." He shifted uncomfortably and looked at the trees. "I was not supposed to follow after her. No one is. But, well, we never did say goodbye. She...left, unexpectedly, without warning. It was no fault of her own, she would have prevented it, but she had lost a great deal of strength and we were outnumbered..." He caught what he was saying and shook his head, brightening slightly with a smile. "It's a long, wearisome tale, more fit for an old, dusty volume on a shelf than the golden dawn."
He glanced at her and raised his eyebrows. "We are off to meet your friends, so...what do you plan to do afterwards? Are you a wanderer, too?"

Thiel thought about this for a second. "I have been and most likely always will be a wanderer, at least in my being. I would say in my heart but I don't have a heart. Anyway, I might continue my search for the Ghost Girl. I heard that she's in the Forest of Eldrin. If one of my friends needs my help, I may go to them..." Thiel silenced when she heard the rustle of feathers overhead.

Caledon stopped silent in his tracks and stared at Thiel, barely registering what she then said about the Ghost girl.

A smile crept across Thiel's face as a breath of wind stirred the leaves around them and blew her hair around her head. She smiled and Caledon, then raced forward, sticking her arms out on either side of her body and looking up at the sky and she twirled in circles, laughing gleefully. She kept spinning and dancing until she fell into a pile of leaves. She sighed, closed her eyes, and murmered something under her breath. Suddenly instead of a young elf-girl she was an eagle-like creature the size of a large horse with night-black feathers that were soft to the touch and intelligent, human-like blue eyes. White speckled her stomach and wings. She turned to Caledon, her eyes happy and laughing. "Care for a ride? I feel like flying. It's much too nice to be walking through the woods," she said telepathically.

Caledon blinked at her and shook his head. "It will take some time to get used to this," he murmured under his breath. He stepped forward, then stopped. "Why did you say you had no heart?" he asked quietly.

Thiel bit her lip, a strange look for an oversized bird. "Well, I'm made from moonlight, aren't I? Why would the moon bother giving me a heart? They're way too complicated to make!" she explained.

Caledon threw his head back and laughed. "Complicated? Ho! I'd say so." He grinned and walked forward again, then paused and placed a hand on her wing joint. "We all have hearts, regardless of the tangible ones, the ones that pulse blood through the body, or whatnot. You know, I've met some people who have two hearts. I asked them, now, how can anyone stand to have two hearts?" He smiled again. "Do I mount up before the wing, or after it?" he asked.

"Either. After might be more comfortable, but you have to wrap your arms around my neck to keep from falling off. Just to warn you, I might be a little shaky at takeoff. I haven't flown in a while, but its easy to remember," Thiel replied. "How many people do you know that have some strange trait about them, anyway?" she added.

note: are you there?
"I know a few, including James, but they all seem nice," she added.
