Arouna trudged up the dark path, her coat hanging loosely off of her shoulders and her rain-soaked short orange hair plastered to her head. Her dark green eyes stare at the sky, not even blinking against the rain that falls into them. She likes this place, but she misses the moon that usually watches her while she sleeps and keeps her strong during the day by watching her from its hiding place in the sky. A stab of pain shot through her, and she put a hand over the hole an arrow had left in her stomach. She missed having someone to talk to, but she knew that she would get used to it after a while.
| In the world I see - you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway. |

Deep blue eyes scanned the darkness. Sounds were muffled when the heavens cried. Smells we washed away with the streams trickling over the dirt. Glancing up with the oceanic occulars, the she-wolf allowed her pupils to widen, searching for the moon enshrouded in the thick clouds. A shuffeling to her left caught her attention, waiting a moment for her eyes to focus, Khemosabi recognized the shape of a human. The problem was - which human?
The black wolf decided on a simple answer. Find out. Shaking her silky coat of the water droplets that accumulated upon her ebony pelt, she sat directly in the center of the path, facing the intruder. This was her territory, she didn't feel inclined to share but she didn't mind those who passed through. With her black plume lying at her side, she stared into the darkness, the shape slowly coming nearer. The she-wolf kept her gaze steady, blue eyes piercing into the cold, wet night awaiting the humans' presence.

Arouna saw the wolf and pulled a black pocketknife from her pants pocket, narrowing her eyes and slinking towards the wolf. As she neared the creature, she raised the knife over her head and prepared to attack.

Khemosabi was ready, she watched the human begin her attack but she was one step ahead. With a bark, the she-wolf took a swift move to the right then darted back to the left and charged directly into the girls' legs, tripping her over. With a satisfied sniff, she moved back to her former place in the center of the road, blue eyes watching the human. "Are you quite finished yet? I haven't all night to play wrestle." She sighed, making it seem that she was uninterested in games.
Turning her attention back on the girl, she gazed quietly. "Aye, but you're no ordinary human, are you?" Searching the heavens once more, she noticed the opulent moon still hid behind curtains of rain and cloud and returned her attention to the girl. "Of course, I am also not so ordinary to my own species..."

The girl, lying on her back, propped herself up on her elbows and narrowed her eyes at the wolf. "Who says I'm human?" she asked. Before either figure had a chance to blink, Arouna transformed into a horse-sized silvery white dragon with fierce ice blue eyes that she stared at the wolf at, four sturdy legs that she used to push off of the ground with, and two large, leathery wings to carry her to the bottom of the mountain.

Khemosabi watched with a quiet demeanor as the girl transformed. Aye, this was new but not impossible. She watched th figure fly oferhead and the she-wolf smirked then gave a huff and trotted back down the path.

The shapeshifter had not left the wolf yet. She soared overhead, her scales slippery and shiny with rain, and her wings sore from having to fly through the rain and fight the strong wings.

Aye, and that you're not. Khemosabi watched with quiet blue eyes as the form drifted over head, momentarily blocking out the rain. She paused, a wolfish grin upon her maw. Trying to scent the air for any other company, she was sadly given the smell of wet earth. Slightly troubled, she glanced up again, keeping her occulars on the dragon flying above her and sat her rump on the muddy road after giving a quick shake which sent thousands of water droplets flying and her ebony coat ruffled.

Arouna banked sharply as a gust of wind sent her flying towards the ground. She crashed into the soft earth and sent some mud up into the air before it landed on her scales. She stood and shook herself, standing for a few seconds and allowing the rain to wash the mud from her scales before transforming into a she-elf with moonlight-colored hair that fell past her waist and eyes like violet stars. She patted the pearl handle of her sword before turning and starting down the hill.
